The Tom Simpson talk.
Delivered by the journalist and writer, author of 20 books on cycling and 1000s of articles over the last 15 years, Chris Sidwells, who is also Tom Simpson’s nephew, the talk tells Simpson’s story from his birth in the north-east of England, though Olympic bronze at the age of 19, to his rapid rise through the ranks of European pro cycling to become one of the best cyclists in the world.
It’s a story of adventure, ambition, success and ultimately tragedy, but it’s also a love story, a story of a charming man who won a place in people’s hearts so big that he still badly missed by many who knew him today.
The talk also introduces and presents Chris Sidwells’ latest book, Cycling Legends 01 Tom Simpson, which will be available to all who attend at a discounted price. Chris will also bring the bike Simpson won Paris-Nice on in 1967, as well as one of Simpson’s rainbow jerseys.
Training Smart - How to prepare effectively for endurance events
Are you training for an endurance event or is there an event you are considering entering? Has your training plateaued or are you finding it hard to improve beyond your existing fitness levels? Then we have the ideal event for you here at Musette Cafe.
Training Smart - How to prepare effectively for endurance events is an evening specifically designed to help athletes better understand the benefits of structured training for specific goals - suitable for cyclists, runners and swimmers.
We will be joined on July 4th by qualified endurance coach, Duncan Grainge from SISU Racing (3 x Marathon des Sables, Ultra, Iron Man), qualified Nutritional Therapist, Catherine Steel and successful local endurance athlete, Amy Kilpin. This team of experts will walk through why and how a structured training program can produce much improved results and help take your performances to the next level, with in-depth and actionable insight into how to get the best from your sessions.
Delighted to say that one lucky athlete will also win a £1,000 prize on the night, kindly provided by Catherine and Duncan, comprised of a Lifecode GX Athlete DNA profile and two consultations with Cath to help optimise performance through personalised nutrition. This will be complemented by a bespoke training program, created by Duncan around the winners' specific needs.
We will also be joined on the night by Lee Niven from OtecBikes, who will talk about our new bike drop off service at Musette Cafe. We are also launching OnePro Nutrition in our shop, with a goodie bag with free samples for attendees, including the chance to try one of our new protein smoothies featuring OnePro's delicious protein powders!
